Our Vision Care Plans Make Eye Care Simple and Affordable

After realizing just how convenient it is to be able to work from anywhere, many companies have permanently made the switch to remote work. But with remote work comes an increase in screen time, ultimately putting you at greater risk for eye strain. You want to do your job, but you don’t want your vision to pay the consequences.

However, by incorporating small changes into your daily habits, you can work to reduce eye strain. And with the addition of our vision care plans into your self-care routine, you can keep your eyes healthy for as long as possible.

Here are a few ways to prevent eye strain at work, provided by Vision Care Direct.

#1 – Adjust the Lighting

Bright lighting and glaring lights not only make it more difficult to read what’s on your screen, but these elements can also be harmful to your eyes. To protect your vision, adjust the lighting around you. Avoid harsh, fluorescent lighting, and make sure the sun isn’t glaring onto your screen. Try to align the brightness of the screen to match the room you’re in, and use a matte screen filter to prevent glare.

#2 – Follow the 20-20-20 Rule

Giving your eyes a break throughout the workday is an effective way to reduce eye strain. And it’s as easy as following the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This simple rule will allow your eyes to escape the screen multiple times throughout the day, keeping them healthy and less likely to suffer strain.

#3 – Don’t Forget to Blink

It’s been found that people blink less often when they’re looking at a screen, which can leave your eyes dry and irritated. Blinking keeps your eyes moist, so you’ll want to make sure you’re blinking enough throughout the day to keep your eyes as healthy as possible.

#4 – Adjust Your Setup

Sitting too close to your computer screen is hard on your eyes and can lead to strain. Luckily, you can protect them by simply adjusting your monitor. Your screen should be about an arm’s length away from your face, or about 25 inches. Position the center of your screen 10 to 15 degrees below eye level to reduce strain on your eyes while at work.

#5- Customize Your Screen Settings

Your screen settings may be contributing to your eye strain, and adjusting them can help. Enlarge the text size to make reading easier and prevent squinting. It’s also beneficial to increase the contrast and brightness levels of your screen. You can also lower the color temperature of your screen to produce less blue light – a main cause of eye strain.

#6- Update Your Prescription

An outdated prescription could be the reason behind your eye strain, so it’s important to get an annual eye exam from an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Annual eye exams use assessments and various tests to reveal any vision problems or changes, as well as look for any eye diseases.

Eye exams are a form of preventative care. They can identify several other health concerns and diseases, resulting in early diagnosis and quick treatment. Still, routine vision care is often left out of employer-sponsored health plans.
